An IoT handwashing system with remote compliance monitoring

The system combines an automatic soap dispenser, employee identification and a web application that turns each handwashing event into remotely inspectable operational data. It is designed for workplaces where hygiene procedures need both contactless interaction and traceability.

Embedded device

The dispenser uses a stainless-steel enclosure, infrared sensing, RFID identification, WiFi connectivity and a three-litre soap reservoir. A wash can therefore be detected, associated with a person and sent to the monitoring system without requiring manual data entry.

Contactless dispensing

Infrared sensing triggers the dispensing workflow without requiring the user to touch a shared control.

Employee identification

RFID cards associate a physical interaction with a registered employee so the system records who washed rather than only incrementing a global counter.

Connected records

WiFi connectivity sends handwashing events to the application, where they become searchable and auditable records.

Industrial operation

The device and software operate as one system for hygiene management, combining hardware, identification, connectivity and administration.

Electrical schematic

The controller coordinates the 12 V motor and solenoid valve through a relay module while integrating RFID identification, status LEDs and infrared sensing.

Remote management

The web application manages the people, cards and organisational structure behind the device while also exposing the handwashing record itself.

Employees
Create, modify and remove employee records, with safeguards when an employee already has associated wash data.
Cards and sections
Maintain identification cards and company sections so deployments can follow the real organisational structure of a workplace.
Wash history
Inspect recorded washes by employee, date, time and identification card.
Missing washes
Select a day and identify employees for whom the system has no handwashing event recorded.
Administration
Manage application users, logs and data export from the same web interface.
