A music-analysis system that estimates harmonic compatibility between dance tracks and recommends pitch transpositions that can improve a DJ transition.

Project overview

DJ workflow

Given a target track and a music collection, the system ranks candidate tracks by harmonic compatibility instead of relying only on discrete musical-key labels.

Analysis pipeline

Percussive components are first separated from the signal. Frame-level NNLSChroma features are aggregated and converted to Tonal Interval Vectors, allowing a continuous comparison of harmonic content between tracks.

Actionable output

For every candidate track, the system returns a compatibility percentage and can calculate the pitch-transposition interval that maximises compatibility with the target track. The goal is to support, rather than replace, musical selection by the DJ.
